PhD in Water Resources: Clemson University’s LINS Lab (Intelligent Nexus Systems of Water and Society) invites applications for two fully funded PhD positions in Water Resources and Human–Water Systems. Start in Fall 2026 or as early as Spring 2026.

About LINS Lab

The LINS Lab studies how environment, infrastructure, technology, and society interact to support sustainable and resilient water systems. The team applies hydrology, systems modeling, artificial intelligence, and decision analytics to guide decision-making under uncertainty and create solutions with diverse stakeholders.

Research Areas

  • Water Resources Planning & Management – agent-based modeling, multi-objective optimization, system modeling, decision analytics, human–water interactions.
  • Resilience in Smart Water Systems – stormwater, reservoirs, smart control, cyber-physical security.
  • Water Use & Data Science – risk propagation, food and water security, network analysis.

About the Supervisor

Dr. Chung-Yi Lin is an Assistant Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences at Clemson University. He earned his PhD from Lehigh University and completed postdoctoral research at Cornell and Virginia Tech. His work focuses on decision analytics, sustainability, and resilience in human–water systems.

Eligibility – PhD in Water Resources

Applicants should hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, hydrology, water resources, or a closely related field. Strong skills in modeling, programming, or data analytics are an advantage.
