PhD Scholarships in Machine Learning: Do you have a strong interest in Computer Vision, artificial intelligence, and machine learning research, and look forward to pursuing a PhD degree at the Munich Center for Machine Learning (MCML)?

It’s an annual Matchmaking Call in the fall for exceptionally qualified applicants with a master’s or graduate degree in a related discipline. The PhD position aims to help improve gender balance in this field; applications from women are especially welcome. Applicants are encouraged to submit their application before or on the 14th November, 2025

Program Description – PhD Scholarships in Machine Learning in Germany

MCML Matchmaking is a PhD program across various research areas, available to highly qualified applicants who want to pursue a PhD and work in machine learning research.

It offers a full stipend support and the chance to work in a vibrant, global research environment are features of these positions.

The online application commenced on October 15, and selected candidates will develop a PhD research project in a field related to one of the three research areas of MCML:

  • Foundations of Machine Learning 
  • Perception, Vision, and NLP 
  • Domain-Specific Machine Learning

Qualification for PhD Scholarships in Machine Learning

  • Have a master’s or comparable graduate degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mathematics, statistics, data science, physics, or a similar discipline. 
  • Your degree must be comparable to the equivalent German degree if you obtained it from a university outside of Germany. Officials from the university must approve a final eligibility decision.
  • The application must be submitted before the deadline on November 14, 2025.
  • When translated to the German system using the Bavarian formula, the final MSc degree grade must be at least 2.3 (or the overall average grade if the MSc degree has not yet been given; see section PhD Application-Transcript Converter).
  • Have a strong interest in pursuing scientific goals.
  • Be proficient in the English Language: Must have an extremely strong mastery of the English language.
