Program Description – PhD Position in Mechanical Engineering

This research has direct applications in civil, mechanical, and ocean engineering–making it a strong fit for students with an interest in interdisciplinary studies and real-world engineering challenges. Selected candidates will work within Dr Jahangiri’s research group on cutting-edge problems involving:

Qualifications PhD Position in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Rhode Island

In order to be eligible in this post, the candidates must have the following requirements: 

  • Have a Bachelor or Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil or Ocean Engineering, or other similar discipline.
  • Know System Monitoring and System Identification. 
  • Experience in programming in MATLAB, Python, or other language. 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Dr. Vahid Jahangiri serves as an Assistant Professor in URI’s Department of Mechanical, Industrial, and Systems Engineering. His work focuses on structural health monitoring and damage identification, fluid-structure interactions, structural dynamics and vibration control, and experimental and numerical modelling of complex dynamic systems.
