Position Description – PhD in Deep Learning, Data Science, and AI Systems
The PhD student will study and work closely on topics targeted at Deep Learning, Data Analytics, AI, and Intelligent Systems. The students will solve complex problems that are real-world and are highly relevant in various sectors.
The targeted research areas consist of:
- Deep Learning and Decision Analytics in Healthcare and Biomedical Research: It deals with cancer imaging analytics (PET/CT/MRI), brain imaging analytics, precision medicine, and personalized healthcare.
- Generative AI in the Life-Science and Drug Discovery: Center for Developing Generative AI models in protein/DNA/RNA/ Molecular data analytics, editing genes, molecular design, drug discovery, and more.
- Multivariate Time Series and Sequential Data Modeling: Deep Learning based multivariate sequential data modeling and forecasting in energy, agriculture, and financial applications.
- Interpretable Deep Learning Interpretable and Probabilistic Deep Learning: Interpretability, quantification, deep learning reliability, and deep learning robustness.
- Smart Systems in Agriculture based on AI: Smart systems in pest early detection, poultry vaccine design, food allergy analytics, and management.
- AI Engineering and Intelligent Agent Systems: LLMs, autonomous AI-agent systems to solve decision analytics and adaptive problem-solving.

Shouyi Wang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering at the University of Arlington in Texas. He is a responsive faculty member at the Center of Stochastic Modeling, Optimization, and Statistics (COSMOS).
His research interests are data mining, machine learning, artificial intelligence and deep learning technologies, healthcare informatics and medical decision-making systems, computational neuroscience, and multivariate spatiotemporal time series data mining.
