Program Description – PhD in AI and Machine Learning
The Department of Computer Science provides exciting opportunities to explore cutting-edge research. Selected candidates will work and study under Professor Yue Ning across various fields which include AI and Machine Learning Computer Vision Big Data Analytics Programming Languages Computer Security and Cryptography Software Systems.
The selected PhD students will conduct research in areas such as:
- Foundations of AI such as graph neural networks, AI reasoning, agentic AI, causal inference, and domain adaptation
- Data Analytics such as multi-modal learning and information reciprocity
- Use-Inspired AI such as computational methods for biomedical discovery and social sciences
- Trustworthy and interpretable AI such as privacy-aware algorithms and mechanistic interpretability
Qualifications For the PhD In AI and Machine Learning
Interested applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must have a bachelor’s and a master’s degree degree in computer science, data science, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a similar field
- Have a strong programming skills and abilities in languages such as Python, R, or similar languages
- Applicants must have completed a coursework or research in machine learning, data analysis, or applied statistics
- Must have an excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Have prior experience with deep learning frameworks (such as PyTorch or TensorFlow)
